Restore a backup

Using the list on two phones

Medicine Shelf has no account, so two phones don't share a list on their own. To copy your list to someone else's phone:

  1. Tap Copy my list to another phone below and send the file to them (text, email or AirDrop).
  2. On their phone, open Medicine Shelf and tap Restore a backup, then pick that file.

This replaces whatever list is on their phone. After that, changes made on one phone don't reach the other, so decide who keeps the list up to date and copy it again after a refill or recount.

How the dates are worked out

The count goes down by the daily amount from the day you last counted, so you only need to update it when you pick up a refill or recount.

Order on is the day you'd run out, minus the days your pharmacy needs and a few extra days to be safe. It is never earlier than the day insurance is likely to allow the refill. That day is an estimate based on when you last picked it up, unless you enter the date the pharmacy gave you.

Medicines that need a new prescription each fill (or have no refills left) show Contact prescriber a week before the order date, so the office has time to send it.

I requested a refill and It’s ready for pickup record where a refill stands, so you can see whether you already called it in. The count only goes up when you tap Picked up a refill, and the card stays urgent if the supply is about to run out.

Medicines taken only as needed don't run on a schedule, so they show as "order now" when the count falls below the number you choose.

Privacy and limits

Your list is stored only in this browser on this device. Medicine Shelf does not send it to any server, your doctor or the people who host this page.

Anything you export leaves the app: backup files, calendar entries and printed lists can show your medicines to whoever sees them. Keep them somewhere private.

Because it lives on this device, it does not sync between phones, and clearing your browser data erases it. Save a backup now and then.

Medicine Shelf tracks supply only. It does not give medical or dosing advice, and its dates are estimates. Always follow your prescription label, your pharmacist and your doctor.

Medicine Shelf is free and made by Frank DeCoste. Questions about your medicines go to your pharmacy or prescriber.
